Equine Blessed

There’s no way to pin down the exact moment my love for horses was sparked. Something about their beauty and strength draws our attention. The peace and gentleness of their demeanor reveals God’s handiwork.

The beginning

When my family planned on moving from Texas to Idaho the anticipation of getting a horse when we got there was REAL. I thought about horses all the time. I watched movies about horses, I drew horses, Christmas gifts consisted of toy horses, and our annual family tradition was to go trail riding. I loved everything about them and I dreamed of the day that I would maybe just maybe get to call one my own.

Typical girl thing am I right? Pretty dang sure a love for horses comes naturally for about 85% of girls. Don’t quote me on that stat… just trust me. It’s true.

My childhood dream came true in the spring of 2017. Bought off Craigslist, splashed with all sorts of polka dots and color… Spice and Jax (pictured below) were instantly the source of all my affection and attention. My sister and I had absolutely no idea what we were doing (as we weren’t born country kids) but we were hungry to learn!

I wanted to bottle up each moment we spent with them. My sister and I would be at corrals for hours brushing the horses, braiding manes and sitting in the feed troughs while they ate their hay. It was such a special time sharing a passion with my built in best bud. We got to learn and grow together with our sweet ponies as the time went on.

I brought my camera everywhere to photograph all we did with our horses and looking back, I’m so thankful I did.

The thousands of photographs we’ve taken over the past six years tell a wonderful story revealing the Lord’s great faithfulness in our lives.

It’s a story of wide open spaces, tooled leather, wind blown hair, and dusty boots. From dawn till dusk it’s a story of grit, determination, and learning. A passion spurred on by love and guided by God’s providence.

Riley and I turned to digital scrapbooking to share our adventures (or Instagram as most people call it.) Our photos weren’t grand but it didn’t matter because they still captured the memories. Each little waffle of my instagram feed served as a precious reminder of how blessed we were to have the privilege of being around horses.

My love for photography finds it’s starting place here. Horses are one of the greatest blessings in my life and they’ve been used by the Lord in wonderful ways to teach me to seek Christ above all else. The digital scrapbook is still there and as the song lyric in my bio states, “I’m just a nobody trying to tell everybody all about somebody who saved my soul.”

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” -Matthew 5:14-16
